Individual Character - Wes
1. Newt: Newt is the leader's assistant in the glade, and is
a senior member. He gets along with Thomas from the start, and in tough times,
relies on him as a friend.
2. Physical appearance: Newt is a tall 16-17 year old guy.
He is described as having blond hair and a square jaw, and is in good physical
condition like most of the gladers. He walks with a limp due to an unexplained
accident in the maze.
Mental makeup: Newt is generally mature, allowing him to be
a good leader. He is always trying to figure things out and get to the bottom
of it all, like why Thomas is so special, and how to get out of the maze. Newt
is reliable and doesn't give up easily.
Social: Newt is generally nice to the other Gladers, and in
turn he is respected by them. He is not very close to many, but trusts his
circle of friends. He can be mean to those who have identified themselves as
enemies, such as Gally.
3. How he relates to me: I generally try to stay mature in
situations where it is required, and i am reliable with making sure that what
needs to happen gets done. I try to be nice to the people around me, but I'm
only really close to a few people.
Paragraph for picture: My picture shows Newt in the Glade.
He is staring at the doors of the maze in deep thought, as if he is trying to
figure out the puzzle within. I feel that this characterizes Newt in the way
that I think of him as, a problem solver. I am like him in this way, and I feel
that the picture captures this trait.

1.
Alby is the leader of the Glade. His
relationship with Thomas is like a mutual dependency; they get along to
survive. It is not until later in the book where many details are brought to
light, and their relationship takes a turn for the worse.
2.
Alby is described to be around 16 years of age.
His physical appearance is a young African American that is very muscular and
tall. He is a quiet person, but can be mean at times.
3.
One distinct comparison between Alby and myself is
that we are both quiet, but speak when it is needed to help benefit others and
ourselves. In this book Alby believes that he is needed to help benefit others
and keep peace within the Glade. I choose these qualities, because it shows why
sometimes things need to be done in order to make everybody have a mutual bond,
even though they may have a different opinion on this topic. This relates
because Alby has his own ideas about the Glade, but he doesn’t deny others of
their opinion or their beliefs.
I chose to draw a maze with Alby running out of
it. I think that it is important to show that Alby was able to overcome his
doubts about the maze. The maze represents the unknown to Alby. It is a place
that he has never been, and the feeling of not being completely in charge and
confident about his ability to keep the group safe feeds his doubt. The maze is
a symbol of fear to Alby, and it’s not until the group is in danger that he
works out his fear. This relates to me as well, because you have to learn to
face your fears, which is an obstacle that I have come across getting ready to
choose my path for the future.

The First 48
CSI - CRIME SCENE REPORT - FIRST 48
1. Identify the type of crime committed: Mass kidnapping. Over 50 teenage boys of varying ages have been abducted from their homes and sent to "The Glade" with no memories of their past life.
2. Provide time and place of the crime: Specific time is unknown. Based on reports from the boys, who will be referred to as "the Gladers", they have been there for over 2 years, with a new boy being sent every month. Location is also unknown. The Glade consists of a large field in which the Gladers have built a community. Surrounding the Glade is a large maze, which the Gladers have found no exit to.
3. List names and contact info of those involved: Contact info of the Gladers is nonexistent, as nothing is known about their prior lives. Names of a few are known.
Thomas- The most recent addition, and our main contact
Alby- the leader of the Gladers
Newt - 2nd in command
Chuck- Thomas' guide, arrived the month before him
Gally- self imposed hater of Thomas
4. Describe appearance of the scene: the majority of the Gladers seem to have become used to their situation, but still seem to have a strong will to go home. This feeling drives them to search the maze daily for an exit. However, this proves to be nearly impossible; the walls of the maze move at night, and terrifying monsters occupy it.
5. Describe injuries sustained as a result of the crime: over the years, several of the Gladers have been killed. This has happened due to the dangerous maze, as when they are trapped inside at night they are doomed to be killed by "Grievers", the terrifying breed of monster that dwells within the walls.

Are We there Yet?
So far, Maze Runner has had a very mysterious plot that leaves us with many questions. Why was the Maze built, and who put it there? Will the Gladers escape from the Maze? What's outside of the maze? Why was Thomas sent to the maze, and what happened to his memories? These are only a few that we came up with early into the novel.

And Then What?
Based on the title and first page, we can assume that the story will be about a boy named Thomas, and that his story will involve a maze. In some turn of events, Thomas seems to have have forgotten everything except his name. Because of this, we know nothing else about him yet, and an important part of the story will probably be to find out who he is and why he has ended up on this strange place. He will probably have to run through a physical maze, along with the mental maze of finding out who he is. So far, the story is shrouded in mystery.
Where Are We Again?
The setting is in " The Glade", a large meadow surrounded by large stone walls. Every day, a gate opens in The Glade, revealing a large maze beyond the walls. At night, the gates close again. Every 30 days, a new boy is brought to the Glade with no memory of how they got there or who they are. One thing is agreed on by this strange society: nobody wants to be trapped in the maze at night.
